Advanced Welding

About the Program:
This 24-week (700-hour) certificate and industry credential program provides in-depth training in SMAW, GMAW, FCAW, and GTAW welding techniques. Students will develop skills in both structural and pipe welding, preparing them for successful careers in the field. The curriculum includes essential topics such as welding symbols, measurements, blueprint reading, welding procedures, and fabrication. Students will also receive training in overhead crane operation, safety, and rigging. Additionally, each student will have the opportunity to complete welder qualification testing in various processes and materials to meet industry standards. Designed for individual pacing, this program supports each student's journey toward a strong foundation and career success in welding.
State-Of-The-Art Facility:

Cape Girardeau Public Schools and the Cape Girardeau Career & Technology Center are proud to present our new state-of-the-art 20,000 square-foot facility, this coming Summer 2025. This space is designed to provide exceptional training opportunities with a focus on hands-on learning and advanced industry skills. The facility features two expansive shop areas and four modern classrooms, purpose-built to support a wide range of technical and trade programs.
The highlight of this facility is the 10,000-square-foot, cutting-edge space equipped to prepare students for the demands of the welding industry. This dedicated lab includes three specialized classrooms for welding instruction, ensuring seamless integration of theory and practice. With ample space for hands-on training and advanced equipment, the Welding Lab will serve as a premier destination for students to gain critical skills and certifications needed for successful careers in welding.
Class Schedule:
Accepting applications for the 2026-2027 & 2027-2028 cohorts.
Classes will run from 8:00 am to 3:00 pm with an hour lunch break from 11:00 am to noon.

Eligibility Requirements:
Must be 18 years of age with a high school diploma to register.
WorkKeys entrance exam with required scores: Applied Math (3), Workplace Documents (4), and Graphic Literacy (3).
A $200 deposit is due at the completion of the application to secure a seat.
A background check will be required.
Prior welding knowledge is not required.
